Everything you need to know about potions in Minecraft
Minecraft is an adventure survival game that lets you mine for resources to help you stay alive. At the same time, this game gives you opportunities to explore magical places such as the underwater city of Atlantis, the Nether world, a bastion and more. These places offer multiple possibilities that will upgrade your base as well as your equipment. This is because of the number of rare items found inside these biomes.
Of course, acquiring these rare and legendary items do not come easy since there are a lot of obstacles you need to overcome. These include breathing underwater for a long period of time, being able to walk on lava and the ability to walk fast. From the looks of it, it is impossible to do such things, but what if someone told you that it is possible?
One of Minecraft’s amazing features is that you can brew potions that can give you unique abilities. The drawback of these potions is that they have a time limit, but the secret is to brew as many as you can to prolong the usage. If you are looking for a potions guide, then you should keep reading the following sections.
Covering the basics
To brew some potions, you need a brewing stand first. You can craft one using a crafting table and a couple of materials:
- 1 blaze rod
- 3 cobblestones
Cobblestones are easy to get since you can find them in the caves. Obtaining a blaze rod, on the other hand, is a tough thing to do. To get one, you need to slay a Blaze, which is a hostile mob that will attack you in an instant. You can find one inside Nether fortresses, but you need to be fully prepared when doing so.
When a Blaze shoots its fireballs, it can do great damage to your health. Aside from that, slaying one does not automatically guarantee a successful blaze rod drop. With that said, you need to defeat at least 3 Blazes to get one blaze rod.
Crafting a brewing stand can be a hassle and inconvenient way, but fortunately, there is an easy method you can do. You can get one by visiting any of the villages you come across in the Minecraft world. When you see one, make sure to search all of the houses until you come across a steel brewing stand. To get this, you need to use a pickaxe and break it until it pops as a loot.
Now that you have a brewing stand, the next thing you need is to craft some glass bottles
How to make glass bottles
Glass bottles are small vials that will hold your potions or any liquid in Minecraft. You can get them by defeating mages and witches or craft them with your trusty crafting table.
To craft one, you need the following items:
- 3 Glass blocks (you can get this by placing sand blocks and having them burned by coal inside a stove).
To make one, search for the glass bottle recipe from your crafting table or place the 3 glass blocks in the form of a bowl. Afterwards, you will receive three of these and locate them inside your inventory.
The process of brewing potions
Moving on to the brewing process, you must first have the following ingredients:
- Brewing stand
- Cauldron with water (craft this using a crafting table and 7 iron ingots)
- Blaze powder (get this from defeating Blazes or craft one using a crafting table and a blaze rod)
- Glass bottles
- Water bottles (hold a glass bottle then hit the cauldron to fill the bottle with water)
Once you have everything, you need to to do the following steps:
- Open the brewing stand window by hitting it.
- Place the blaze powder on the leftmost side of the screen.
- Place three water bottles on the three slots at the bottom.
- At the top, place the base ingredient that will produce the type of potion you want.
There are a lot of potions in Minecraft, and each one requires different ingredients. Aside from that, there are base ingredients that will brew a potion that will serve as an ingredient to create a stronger one.

Additionally, if you want to remove a potion or buff effect, you can drink a bucket of milk. Doing this will remove the buffs in an instant.
With these potions, you can now embark on more dangerous and life-threatening adventures. Just make sure to stock up on everything to be safe. Happy mining!
